Joe Canzanella,Supervisor, Athletics and Athletics of New Haven Public Schools wrote in the Elm City Bowl program booklet that" Before the initiation of the Elm City Bowl both Hillhouse and Wilbur Cross were located on Tower Parkway across the street from one another, adjacent to the Yale Payne Whitney Gymnasium. The intense rivalry between the two schools began in the 1950's and was called the Harvest Festival. In 1958 the Wilbur Cross and Hillhouse buildings were constructed at their present locations and in 1984 the great rivalry between these two educational institutions was established and moved to Thanksgiving Day."
The 25th Annual Elm City Bowl Festivities, the Freddie Fixer Parade, the Black Expo, The St Patrick Parade and many more opportunities are vital for sustaining a vibrant region. As we enter the holiday season, let's raise a toast for our city and our region. Let's make 2010 a daily work hard-play hard-love hard year for our greater good.
