I shared with a friend, the number of hate groups per state identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center and the person responded that he thought there would be more. I was not sure what he meant by that I think we both agree that one hate in the US is enough.Merlie Evers really probably initially was not too concerned if Byron Delabeckwith murdered her husband Medgar Evers on behalf of Byron's vitriol or acted under the auspices of the collective and organized beliefs of the KKK. Did Lee Harvey Osawald act alone or due to some membership affiliation and organized belief system? Was John Hinkley really just a mental case or something else. Was the Unibomber a card carrying member of something and does the Yale Professor who suffered the pain and agony able to minimize the body part loss experience depending on whether the person acted alone or in consort?
Whether we can enumerate precisely Klan members, or white citizen council members, or John Birch society members or Skin Head groups specifically The Southern Poverty Law Center's paradigm is to convey that if these are the groups visible enough and bold enough to be public, might it be that there are many others truly underground? Also we can not forget the members of Congress and the Supreme Court that were members of the KKK, not to mention the former senator from Mississippi who spoke about wishing that the racist and bigot Strom Thurmond should have become president,(not withstanding Senator Thurmond's fondness for southern female hood in all colors) In sum, the Southern Poverty Law Center's thrust is that Tim MCveigh does not have to be a member of hate group to wreak havoc in society, and by the way the recent Pittsburgh killer and the DC Holocaust museum shooting were hate inspired. - So be it one malicious group per state, 20 hate groups per state or more we need to be very very concerned. .Of course who needs hate groups when you had J. Edgar Hoover , beginning by the way in 1919 -when Hoover cut his career teeth spying on black organizations. Who needs hate groups when you had the FBI for much of the 20th century condoning and supporting (by ignoring) state sponsored terroism in the south. Who needs hate groups when Glen Beck and Rush and company have made it fashionable!
