Dear Friend,
For nearly a decade the New Haven Probate Court has provided grants to caregivers through its Kinship Program. Shortly after it was established, a group of attorneys came together to assist this effort through the Thomas F. Keyes, Jr. Grant Fund, which makes awards to the Kinship Fund. In 2005, this program expanded to provide grants to guardians appointed by the Regional Children’s Probate Court. In 2006, the State supported a Respite Project designed specifically to complement caregivers, grandparents and relative guardians. Both funds are supported by the State, as well as local donors, particularly attorneys.
These programs depend on your continued support to meet some very urgent and compelling needs for caregivers and guardians. The grants provided by these funds are very important resources for hundreds of caregivers, families and children. Recently, the State, under the innovative leadership of Judge James Lawlor, approved the expansion of these programs to include The Extended Family Pilot Program (non-relative guardians). Our goal is to increase the scope of financial support for these funds through greater organization, individual assistance, and corporate participation.
On September 10, 2009, at 6:00 PM the Children’s Trust Fund is sponsoring a Garden Celebration and Benefit dinner in support of the Thomas F. Keyes, Jr. Grant Fund at Anthony’s Ocean View Restaurant, 450 Lighthouse Road, New Haven. We invite you to attend this special event. If you are unable to attend your support as a sponsor would be greatly appreciated.
