Rev Ike recently passed away.It is so easy to disparage him,especially if you were not a follower or a patron. Before the mass media hysteria and consumption of the Dvd,"The Secret" before TD Jakes, and Creflo,before Jimmy Swaggert,Pat Robinson and Tammie Faye, Rev. Ike captured the minds, hearts and wallets of many. Let me be clear I am not hatin.( Imagine if cable TV had been available to him)
In fact I would like to make the crucial point that similar to Father Divine and others, Rev. Ike tapped into the human psyche as many have done before, currently and probably into the future. His prosperity product is as American as apple pie. If your time permits research the preachers during the 1800's. Research the utopian communities. Research the metaphysical schools and devotees. America is very young nation. Our psychic soul is still unfolding. A country with no institutional religion, (sorry Southern Baptists) just consider the awesome varieties of religious expression practiced in this baby land.
The great awakening perhaps has yet to occur. Let's hope that when it does happen, that it is not a nightmare!
