The Yale University Medical School's Office of Multicultural Affairs hosted a very
inspirational medical and dental recruitment fair on Friday, July 10, 2009.College students who attended were participants in SMDEP.
The purpose of the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program is a 6- week summer enrichment program for freshman and sophomores who are interested in careers in medicine or dentistry. The SMDEP program is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Yale Medical School is one of 12 sites and students from Yale and other sites were able to speak with and collect information first hand from various medical and dental school admissions representatives in attendance.Given the ongoing and sometimes unfair assault on the quality and commitment of our youth, to witness the enthusiasm, astute questions and passion filled faces that descended upon New Haven made me feel quite young and refreshed.
