YALE REPERTORY THEATRE AND YALE SCHOOL OF DRAMA ANNOUNCE THE
14TH ANNUAL DWIGHT/EDGEWOOD PROJECT
IN COLLABORATION WITH
AUGUSTA LEWIS TROUP AND WEXLER/GRANT COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
Yale Repertory Theatre and Yale School of Drama announce the 14th annual Dwight/Edgewood Project (D/EP). Ten local middle school students are paired with Yale School of Drama mentors, designers, and directors, and will spend the month of June learning about theatre and writing original plays in this annual after-school initiative. The program culminates in performances of the students’ work at New Haven’s Off-Broadway Theatre.
Ten original plays, written by the children and designed, produced and performed by Yale School of Drama students, will be presented over two evenings. Performance dates are Friday, June 26th and Saturday, June 27th at 7:00pm. New Haven’s Off-Broadway Theatre is located at 41 Broadway. Admission is free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first come, first served basis.
D/EP 2009 will include 5 local students from August Lewis Troup School and 5 from Wexler/Grant Community Schools, who were chosen by Troup Principal Richard Kaliszewski and Wexler/Grant Principal Kevin Muhammad, based on their demonstrated writing skills. This year’s playwrights are Tariq Asaad (Wexler, 7th grade), Ramone Brown (Troup, 7th grade), Sydney Feeney (Wexler, 7th grade), Taqir James (Wexler, 6th grade), Tatiana Moreno (Troup, 6th grade), Mikaely Romero (Troup, 6th grade), Kiyanna Smith (Troup, 6th grade), Darriell Sparks (Wexler, 7th grade), Sequoyah Thorpe (Troup, 6th grade), and Brianna Williams (Wexler, 6th grade).
The staff of the Dwight/Edgewood Project 2009 includes Jorge J. Rodríguez (Producing Director), Amanda Spooner (General Manager), Chris Mirto and Erik Pearson (Directors), Germán Cárdenas Alaminos (Set Designer), Valerie Bart and Ying Song (Costume Designers), Adrian Rooney (Lighting Designer), Nick Morgan (Sound Designer), Aurélia Fisher (Stage Manager), and Tom Delgado (Technical Manager). Mentors include Trai Byers, Kevin Daniels, Joby Earle (Yale Presidential Fellow), Stephanie Hayes, Ryan Lockwood, Hannah Montgomery, Aaron Moss, Brian Valencia, Liz Wisan, and Becca Wolff.
Dorothy Fortenberry, YSD ’08 and D/EP ‘06 alum, will teach the Playmaking course.
