a free public forum

WHEN: SATURDAY, MAY 2, 2009
11:00 am – 4:00 pm

WHERE: DWIGHT HALL CHAPEL, YALE UNIVERSITY OLD CAMPUS
67 HIGH ST, NEW HAVEN, CT

SPONSORS: PEOPLE AGAINST INJUSTICE, YALE STUDENT LEGAL ACTION MOVEMENT

An impressive cast of 12 national and local speakers will present many aspects of the Drug War/prison connection and what can be done to end it in Connecticut, and in the nation, and to substitute sensible drug policies.

“This conference will highlight a 35-year trail of racial and social injustice,” says organizer Barbara Fair. “We intend to make it clear to those who haven't already recognized it that the drug war is simply Jim Crow in disguise. In 35 years drug use has increased, and drugs are cheaper and more accessible than ever before, so obviously we are not winning this war”.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS: Ira Glasser and Kemba Smith. Mr. Glasser, former director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), is the current president of the board of the Drug Policy Alliance. Ms Smith was pardoned by President Clinton after incarceration for over 6 years of a 24 year sentence for her boyfriend’s illegal drug business.
