The Board of Directors of the Clifford Beers Clinic
invited all to the
7th ANNUAL BUILDERS OF HOPE BREAKFAST
FEATURING
JAMES GARBARINO, PHD on
Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at
The New Haven Lawn Club.

The Clifford Beers Clinic exists because of the powerful connection trauma and violence have
to our children’s mental health and their behavior. Chronic exposure to trauma and
violence affects children’s health, academic performance, and quality of life.
The effect of trauma are transmitted generation to generation. Research has shown that chronic trauma exposure is directly linked to heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, smoking, and substance abuse.

James Garbarino, PhD, an expert in violence and children,
and the 2009 featured speaker drove this point this point home, in our hearts, minds and souls during a fact-filled , emotion filled and vision filled address, sermon and lecture. Dr. Garbarino holds the Maude C. Clark Chair in
Humanistic Psychology and is Director of the Center for Human Rights of Children
at Loyola University in Chicago. For all those interested in this nexus of societal and body-mind-spirit health and healing I recommend reading any of his life compass literary achievements.

Be a champion for health, wellness and resiliency.
