At Clifford Beers Clinic, we see the powerful connection trauma and violence have
to our children’s mental health and their behavior. Chronic exposure to trauma and
violence affects children’s health, academic performance, and quality of life.
The effect of trauma are transmitted generation to generation. Research has shown that chronic trauma exposure is directly linked to heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, smoking, and substance abuse.

We are thrilled to have James Garbarino, PhD, an expert in violence and children,
as our 2009 featured speaker. Dr. Garbarino holds the Maude C. Clark Chair in
Humanistic Psychology and is Director of the Center for Human Rights of Children
at Loyola University in Chicago.

Be a champion for health, wellness and resiliency.
