Jacksonville Jaguars defensive assistant Tom Williams has accepted the job as Yale football coach, according to a source familiar with the search.

Williams, 39, who will be officially announced at a 2 p.m. press conference Wednesday at the Ray Tompkins House, is the first black head coach in Yale football history.

Williams has never been a head coach, but he has 11 years of college coaching experience with stops at Hawaii, Washington, Stanford and San Jose State. He has spent the last two seasons as a defensive assistant with the Jaguars.

Yale’s first game under Williams will be Sept. 19 at Georgetown.
