> Greater New Haven to Host Inaugural Ball
> Two bands & 1800 square feet of dance space at the center of non-partisan celebration
>
> “This is the event where we can celebrate as a non-partisan community while president-elect Obama ushers in a new era in civility,” said Lesley Mills, Chair of the Inaugural Ball. Committee members, Democrats, Republicans and Independents, from New Haven and the surrounding towns, have been working for weeks to prepare the celebration which takes place at the Omni Hotel, 155 Temple Street, New Haven, on January 20th, 2009.

> In keeping with the celebratory theme, the evening focuses on dance from many cultures including ballroom and salsa demonstrations and a group of Kenyan dancers. Phil Brown’s 12-piece Top Notch Orchestra will alternate with the 10 piece Agua Pa Chocolate salsa band in the Grand Ballroom. Alisa’s House of Salsa will present an additional Latin Room for the guests who are expected to dance on both floors. The Grand Ballroom will feature a 9x12 screen showing Washington D.C. activities and there will be several presentations of the Inaugural Address and other audio-visual programs in the Media Room. Edward Parker, BBC composer, has created a Grand March for the event and James Sinclair, maestro of Orchestra New England, along with international soprano Francesca Liotta, will lead the audience in the National Anthem. Henri Sumner, past chairman of the Cultural Affairs Department in New Haven, is Entertainment Chair.

> Tickets for The Ball, which include savories and sweets and a cash bar, are $25 for the 8p.m. to midnight event. A formal dinner begins in the Ballroom at 6p.m.for Supporters at $50 including reserved seats for The Ball. Patrons also enjoy a 6p.m. Reception at the Top of the Park for $125 per person, open bar. Tables of 10 are available for Patrons and Supporters. Festive and After 5 Attire is requested.

> All proceeds benefit the New Haven Public School Foundation,501c(3), formerly School Volunteers, and portions of each ticket are tax-deductible. The mission is to mobilize and distribute resources that support and enhance New Haven public school education. Noted artist Tony Falcone has created a portrait of the president-elect that will be the highlight of the auction.
