NAACP PRESIDENT BUILDS STRONG LEADERSHIP TEAM
Roger C. Vann chosen as Vice President of Field Operations and Membership
Today, NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous announced the selection of Roger C. Vann as Vice President of Field Operations and Membership of the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization.
Vann, who previously served on the NAACP national staff from 2000 to 2003 as membership director and later as the Association's Chief Development Officer, has a track record of success in growing organizations.
"Our members are vital to the growth and success of this organization," said Jealous. "Roger understands their value, appeals to the next generation and has the experience to successfully lead our membership efforts."
Most recently, Vann served as director of the African American Hiring Initiative for UNITE HERE, an international hospitality industry union. While there, Vann worked to increase the number of African Americans in union jobs in Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego.
Vann held prior positions as Senior Director of Operations for Amistad America, Inc. and as Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut. Early in his career, he worked in broadcasting as a news director, programmer and talk show host with local radio.
The Brown University graduate demonstrated his commitment to social change through his public service with the development of a manhood mentoring program. In his home state of Connecticut he is a past president of both the Greater New Haven Branch of the NAACP and the Connecticut State Conference, NAACP. In addition, he served as a member of the Governor's Blue Ribbon Task Force on affordable housing, the State Treasurer's Task Force on Individual Development Accounts and the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities.
Vann resides in Virginia with his wife Rae and their three children.
