In addition to the Making a Good Gift Better program, over $3.3 million in grants was awarded through The Foundation’s largest single round of grantmaking. Projects receiving funding varied greatly; funding was made possible through the generosity of donors who have established funds at The Foundation over the past 80 years. Dollars awarded through this grant process come from unrestricted and preference funds. Unrestricted gifts enable The Foundation’s Board to respond to the community’s most pressing needs, today and in the future, while preference funds award grants to community organizations and programs that make a difference in specific areas of interest selected by each donor.
Since 1928, donors to The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven have built the community's endowment valued at approximately $300 million as of December 31, 2007. In 2008, The Foundation’s Board of Directors distributed over $12 million in grants from approximately 700 different named charitable funds supporting a wide range of programs and projects. The Foundation also celebrates 80 years of helping donors achieve their charitable goals and improving the quality of life for Greater New Haven residents.
