The Writ of Habeas Corpus is the legal instrument through which an individual may request a court review of conditions leading to detainment and conviction. Long a powerful weapon against institutional racism, habeas now has come under siege in the name of the War on Terror. Panelists for this discussion included Rubin "Hurricane" Carter and Judge H. Lee Sarokin, who ruled in favor of Carter's last-hope writ, as well as award-winning journalist Jack Hitt,


civil rights advocate and professor at Georgetown Law School David Cole,and moderator Harold Koh, dean of Yale Law School.
