GREATER NEW HAVEN AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY CELEBRATES

Five years ago the Greater New Haven African-American Historical Society, Inc. was founded
with the purpose to promote a greater understanding of African-American heritage and culture through the collection, preservation, display and presentation of historical and cultural materials. The Historical Society serves as an advocate for programs and initiatives that support a better understanding of the history of people of African descent.

The public is invited to help celebrate with a special Fifth Anniversary Lifetime Contributions Award program. Honored will be several well-known New Haven luminaries: John Daniels, Carlota (Charlotte) Williams, Natalie Douglas Hardy and a special recognition to Jerri Leak. The special guest this year will be Tony award winner Ben Vereen.

The program will be held on June 20, 2008, at 6:30 pm at the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale, 155 Temple Street in New Haven, and includes dinner, cocktails and music.
