The Color of My Spirit

On June 19th, 2008, the Dr. Charles Blockson African-American Library at Temple University celebrated the Grand Opening of their new facilities while also celebrating Juneteenth, the anniversary of the emancipation of the African slaves in America. Dr. Diane Turner is the new curator of the library, inheriting her position from Dr. Blockson who donated the vast collection of Afro-centric books, artwork and memorabilia to Temple University.

Former New Haven Resident, Christina Lashley, author of "The Color of My Spirit: A Spiritual Quest Around the World was the featured author making this her first public announcement of her new book. Ms. Lashley donated one of her first editions to the collection. The standing room only crowd participated in a traditional African libation honoring the ancestors and singing of the Black National Anthem. It was a very exciting afternoon for all in attendance.
