Boston area educator Kai Bynum chosen to head Hopkins School in New Haven:

NEW HAVEN >> Boston area educator Kai Bynum as been chosen as the new head of school at the Hopkins School, effective July 1, 2016, according to a press release from the school.
Bynum will succeed Barbara Riley, who is retiring after a 15-year tenure, the release said.
At Roxbury Latin in Massachusetts, the release said, Bynum is responsible for all academic departments and the research, design and implementation of the school’s curriculum development. He also is responsible for key elements of the strategic plan and for a range of schoolwide programs. Bynum holds an Ed.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, an Ed.M. at Columbia University’s Teachers College, an M.L.A. in literature at Harvard University, and a B.A. in history at the University of Washington. He began his teaching career in public schools and has worked as an English teacher, an adviser, a coach, and a senior administrator at The Governor’s Academy and Belmont Hill School, both in Massachusetts. He has served as a trustee for the International Boys’ Schools Coalition, the Glen Urguhart School in Massachusetts and the Nashoba Brooks School in Massachusetts, and has served on advisory councils on multiculturalism and diversity for the National Association of Independent Schools, the release said.
“We are pleased to have an educator with Kai’s talent, integrity, leadership and passion for education join Hopkins,” Vincent A. Calarco, president of the Hopkins committee of trustees, said in the release.
