19 Year Old to be Charged with Murder

Ruthie Barnett, Brown-Edwards’ aunt, thanked police at a press conference at police headquarters Monday for their tireless efforts over the months.
“Needless to say this has been a trying time, to say the least,” she said. “Through it all we learned patience and kept our faith in God and the New Haven Police Department, recognizing that this crime would take time to solve.”
Police, along with assistance from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, located the handgun that allegedly was used to kill Brown-Edwards.
Brown-Edwards was shot in the head while in his residence on Kossuth Street on Feb. 10. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He lost his brother Dennis Carr Jr. to a shooting in 1997 that occurred only a block from where Brown-Edwards was shot in February.
Brown-Edwards is a cousin of Victim Services Coordinator Officer Jillian Knox, who stood with family members during the press conference.
